What is AMAC?
-
The Alternative Media Access Center (AMAC) offers students and individuals with print-related disabilities (e.g. learning disabilities, visual impairments, mobility and other disabilities) independent access to electronic materials and the adaptive software to access these materials.

The Alternative Media Access Center (AMAC) is partnering with the UGA Regents Center for Learning Disorders and Advanced Learning Technologies.

AMAC is funded by the University System of Georgia.

AMAC plans to work with private institutions, government organizations, non-profit organizations, private industry, and other agencies serving individuals with disabilities.

USG Membership Cost
-
USG is providing 67% of the FY 07 Funding for AMAC.
-
Institutional total cost for FY 07 will be 33%.
-
The 33% additional funds will subsidize Braille, deaf & hard of hearing, math/science material production and assistive technology services.

AMAC has recommended funds be pulled from technology related budget expenditures to support AMAC UDL system initiatives.

Advanced Learning Technologies will be responsible for collection of monies.

Advanced Learning Technologies (ALT)

ALT is a unit within the University System of Georgia’s Office of Information and Instructional Technology. ALT leads the University System and its institutions in the strategic uses of technology as an integral part of the academic enterprise to expand access, enhance learning, enrich opportunities, and establish innovative finance and governance models. Students served by AMAC must provide documentation to verify a functional limitation requiring the use of alternative media or assistive technology accommodation(s) for accessing print material.

UGA-RCLD is responsible for monitoring the documentation process for AMAC.

Service providers referring an individual for services through AMAC must maintain the student’s documentation on file at their institution that follows the AHEAD Seven Essentials for Documentation.

AMAC Documentation Criteria

Students will receive services through AMAC after the referring service provider signs an AMAC Documentation Release Form. This form must be approved by the UGA RCLD before AMAC services can be provided to an individual student.
